Decadence

This is was my first series, undertaking the subject of shooting derelict architecture. Initially shooting here in the United Kingdom in late 2013 before moving across Europe throughout 2014 and early 2015. Some of the works displayed here have won photographic competitions and have gained recognition from across Europe.

Entitled “Decadence” after my first Exhibition in Norwich in 2015, the synonym of the word relating to the series is "moral or cultural decline as characterized by excessive indulgence in pleasure or luxury" which certainly rings true.

Series creation:  Late 2013 - Early 2015.

The Monastery

The Monastery

This place has a bit of a nasty history once it fell under Nazi German rule - said to be owned now in 2018, however it still sits disused and trashed which is not a surprise as the chapel was last used in 1978!

BACK TO COURT

BACK TO COURT

My second visit to these unique stairs inside a former courthouse in Western Germany, which has since been redeveloped.

Buzludzha Monument - An abandoned saucer-shaped monument in the Bulgarian mountains. More here.

Opening in 1981 and closing only 9 years later in 1990 the building is no longer maintained by the Bulgarian government, it has fallen into disuse - although it is now (2018) being protected by a guard.

Heavens piano

Heavens piano

Shot in a tiny room in Beelitz Heilstätten in Germany in August. This was in part of the bathhouse, out in the back slightly hidden away.

The reason for the “wool” on the floor is that it was used for this short movie - just 2 weeks prior to our visit.

Château Miranda (English: Miranda Castle), also known as Château de Noisy was a 19th-century neo-gothic castle in Celles, Belgium. As of October 2017, the chateau has been completely demolished.

A little known fact is that, the Château was used as a filming location by the American television series Hannibal.

OBSTREPEROUS

OBSTREPEROUS

Château Miranda (English: Miranda Castle), also known as Château de Noisy was a 19th-century neo-gothic castle in Celles, Belgium. As of October 2017, the chateau has been completely demolished.

The Château stood empty and abandoned since the early 1990’s and a search for investors in the property failed, eventually the building succumbed to decay and vandalism. Parts of the structure were heavily damaged in a fire and many areas of the ceiling were beginning to collapse. Despite this, it become a favorite venue of many Urban Explorers.

A small but unique ballroom, hidden inside a very old abandoned palace in Italy.

THE GREENHOUSE EFFECT

THE GREENHOUSE EFFECT

Inside this greenhouse on a hot summers day was like being in a furnace - it really was. A true example of Nature taking back in the grounds of a now cared for, mansion.
